A rescue story

Black dog with bad skin condition

This sweet girl arrived in our care from a resident who found her on August 21, 2021, visibly pregnant and clearly in dire need of medical intervention. Our veterinarian saw her immediately and noted her severe crusting, alopecia, lichenification (when skin becomes thick and leathery- usually a result of constant scratching or rubbing) and fleas crawling all over her. We started her on treatment and set her up to go into labor, we expected it would happen during her hold period. Sure enough, on 8/26 she went into labor and had 7 puppies. We transferred them all to an adoption partner on Saturday. We know the puppies will find great homes in about 8 weeks, we just hope someone also falls in love with their mom the way our team did. She couldn't have been a nicer dog.
It has been a long 1.5 years for our staff, but to see them all rally and check in on our momma in her time of need was very touching. It reminded many of us why we signed up to do this work, we can't wait to see this family's final outcome.
