Do You Love Animals?

Fremont Police, Animal Services maintains an active volunteer program. If you are interested, please read the Volunteer Requirements below. More detailed volunteer information is also available.

To apply, fill out and bring with you a Volunteer Application before you come in. You can drop by the shelter during business hours (Tuesday through Friday 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. or Saturday Noon to 5 p.m.) and speak with the Animal Services Volunteer Coordinator. 

It generally takes 2-4 weeks to complete the steps to become an Animal Services Volunteer

What do Volunteers Do?

help socialize and care for animals in the shelter

help staff with office tasks such as preparing the shelter for opening each day, answering phone calls, photography and assisting with clerical work.

Volunteers are taken on an as-needed basis and recruitment is continuous. 

Volunteer Requirements

  • Be at least sixteen years of age.
  • Be willing to become comfortable around animals and familiar with basic animal behavior.
  • Be comfortable interacting with the public.
  • Must be able to follow rules, policies, and procedures of the Tri-City Animal Shelter.
  • Be able to commit at least two hours a week for a minimum of six months (we have flexibility in the hours).
  • Able to volunteer on weekdays and/or Saturdays between the hours of 9 and 5
  • Be able to pass a background check which includes a records check and fingerprinting.
